Jerwin Ancajas retained his IBF junior bantamweight title for the fifth defense, outpointing No. 1 mandatory challenger Jonas Sultan to a unanimous decision victory. The scores were 119-109 on two judges' cards and 117-111 on the third.

Ancajas (30-1-1, 20 KOs) dominated the fight from the opening round, defending extensively from the attacks of Sultan (14-4, 9 KOs). Ancajas released a lot of his jab and supported them with straight lefts to the body and the head of Sultan and connected crafty counter-right hooks on Sultan whenever he thrusts forward.

The crowd was bored of the tactical fight after an entertaining co-feature fight of Kal Yafai who dropped David Carmona in the first and fourth rounds, and floored him twice in the fifth before a worn-out Carmona did not answer the bell following the seventh round. Yafai maybe Ancajas' next opponent.

Ancajas and Sultan mix it up with a lot of action in the 12th round, giving the fans some entertainment when the outcome of the fight had already been decided in favor of the defending champion.

Sultan had his five fight winning streak ended. Ancajas went the distance for the first time since he won his IBF title belt against McJoe Arroyo in September 2016.

Jerwin Ancajas and Jonas Sultan both weighed at 123.4 lbs. during the second day weigh-in conducted at The Courtyard by Marriott Hotel Saturday morning, the fight day. They were not more than 10 lbs. of the limit. Both Filipino fighters were only 8.4 lbs. over the superflyweight fighting weight of 115 lbs.

The Ancajas-Sultan All-Filipino world title encounter happened 93 years after Pancho Villa won over Clever Sencio by unanimous decision on May 2, 1925 at the Wallace Field now Luneta in Manila. But only 84 days later on August 18, Donnie Nietes fights countryman Aston Palicte for the WBO superflyweight world title in Cebu.
