LAKE SEBU, South Cotabato---Engineer Julius Silvederio reinforced his position as one of the Philippines' top chess players when he ruled the 5th leg (Mindanao leg) Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) dubbed as Senator Manny Pacquiao National Executive Chess Championship on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Punta Isla Resort, Lake Sebu in South Cotabato here.

Silvederio defeated Executive Optical Manager Dillon Intila in the final round to score 6.0 points in seven outings to bag the top prize P20,000 plus elegant trophy in the event backed up by Senator Manny Pacquiao, Lake Sebu town mayor Antonio Fungan, South Cotabato governor Daisy Avance-Fuentes and Alphaland, organized by South Cotabato Government led by tournament director Joselito "Lito" Dormitorio.

Dr. Jenny Mayor, meantime beat National Committee on Disability Affairs (NCDA) Consultant James Infiesto to finish with 5.5 points and went home the runner-purse of P14,000.

Intila, Michael John Parrenas (Supervisor), Cleto Vasquez (Manager Motortrade), Infiesto, Rhynan Arce (engineer), Alfredo Paez (Dentist), Cliburn Anthony Orbe (Lawyer/NCFP director), Domingo Dormitorio (Engineer) and Eduard Sumergido (Accountant) finish tied for 3rd to 11th spots with 5.0 points.

Chief arbiter is FNA Alexander Dinoy and assisted by FNA Lorenzo Cuizon Jr. and FNA Mark John Gastar.

Earlier, engineer Silvederio scored victories over Laurence Wilfred "Larry" Dumadag of UNESCO in the first round, SSS top player Dioniver "Bobot" Medrano in the third round, Ateneo Principal Rey Reyes in the fourth round, Bank Manager Emmanuel Asi in the fifth round, Supervisor Michael John Parrenas in the sixth round before beating Intila in the final canto. His only setback at the hands of Teacher Roumundo Jaime Alexis Edades Jr. in the second round.

An Open chess championships gets underway on Sunday. The staging of two-day (Saturday and Sunday) chess festivities got a massive boost with Filipino boxing icon turned Politician Senator Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao throwing his support behind the event.

Orbe, who is also the treasurer of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines under the leadership of Surigao del Sur Rep.
