Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand -- In a WBC pre-fight weight check three days before battle, WBC Minimumweight World Champion Wanheng Menayothin (49-0, 17 KO's) of Thailand made 49.5 Kg (109 lbs), while Mandatory challenger Leroy Estrada of Panama (16-2, 6 KO's) scaled-in at 49 Kilos (108 lbs) Sunday at the studios of BBTV Channel 7 here in Bangkok, Thailand.
Seeing at each other for the first time, both boxers appeared serious, focused and no words were spoken, yet they were cordial towards each other while posing for the cameras, shaking hands at the end of the afternoon event.
The official WBC weigh-in ceremony will be held on May 1st at Sura Thani Hotel with the rumble itself taking center stage at an open air ring set in front of Khoral City Hall at 3 PM (Thailand Time).
The third man for the clash will be veteran American referee Jay Nady of Las Vegas; with the judges being two from Japan plus one judge from South Korea. The WBC supervisor will be Mr. Tsuyoshi Yasukochi, Excecutive Secretary General of the Japan Boxing Commission.
To diehard fans of boxing star Floyd Mayweather, this bout in rural Thailand is intriguing... because if Wanheng Menayothin defeats the rather inexperienced 23-year-old Estrada, the Thai would tie Floyd's 50-0 unbeaten record... and the 32 year-old Menaythin has vowed to do just that.
Will the 32-year-old world champion from Thailand competing in boxing's lowest weight class tie the cherished record of boxing's mega star Floyd Mayweather Jr...?? Or will the Panama fighting kid achieve the unthinkable by defeating in Thailand a solid, experienced Thai world champion making the 9th defense of his world title..??
