BAGO CITY DOMINATES PSC-PACQUIAO AMATEUR BOXING CUP VISAYAS FINALS IN MAASIN CITY

The best amateur boxers in the region met at Maasin City, Southern Leyte yesterday for the 1st PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup Visayas Finals at the City Integrated Terminal. The event was graced by the presence of ABAP Secretary General Ed Pecson, AIBA Technical Supervisor Karina Pecson, PSC Visayas Coordinator Nonie Lopez, and Atlanta Olympic Silver Medalist Onyok Velasco.
Bago City boxers dominated the competition as they won four gold medals and four silver medals out of eight final bouts they entered to show to the country once again that they are the boxing capital in this part of the Philippines.
Omega Boxing Club of Mandaue won two golds and two silvers to place second. Cebu was third with two golds and one silver, followed by Murcia and Leyte Sports Academy with two golds apiece. Escalante got one gold.
Maasin, La Carlota, Cadiz and Bayawan each garnered a silver medal.
The participants of the Visayas Finals, the gold and silver medalists, however will automatically be qualified for the National Quarterfinals.
The event was also attended by ALA Boxing star Prince Albert Pagara and head trainer Edito Villamor.

Jonimel John Dajao (Murcia) defeated Joren Varona (La Carlota) by Split Decision, Jr. Boys Light Bantamweight
Sugar Ray Montales (Bago) defeated Ian Lloyd Gesalan (Maasin) by Unanimous Decision, Jr. Boys Bantamweight
Myra Nacario (Leyte Sports Academy) defeated Mary Nicole Llamas (Cebu) by Unanimous Decision, Youth Girls Light Flyweight
