
PACQUIAO TO DELIVER WELCOME ADDRESS AT WBC CONVENTION

Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao will deliver a welcome address at the opening of the WBC Convention at the historic Manila Hotel on November 12.
Games and Amusements Board chairman Eric Buhain said the world?s most exciting fighter?s remarks would follow the opening remarks and words of welcome from Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo who will attend the opening ceremonies of the convention will be given a special award by WBC president Jose Sulaiman who will also present the founding secretary general of the world?s No.1 boxing organization, the eminent lawyer Rudy Salud the WBC?s ?Lifetime Achievement Award.?
The president of the WBC at that time, the late Justiniano Montano Jr will also be conferred an award in recognition of his achievements as head of the world body.
One other fighter who will also deliver brief remarks at the opening session will be WBC Emeritus heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. Other illustrious former world champions who will attend the convention are Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard and Erik ?El Terrible? Morales.
Chairman Buhain said that as the date of the WBC Convention draws near the GAB has been besieged by boxing people wishing to attend to such an extent that the Manila Hotel has already been fully booked except for a few of the more expensive suites. He said some 800 officials and delegates are expected to attend the convention.
President Sulaiman, the board of governors and other special guests will visit the sprawling Elorde Sports Complex built by the late, great Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde who reigned as world junior lightweight champion for almost seven-and-a-half years and has been enshrined in the boxing ?Hall-of-Fame.?
