CHICAGO -- With their playoffs lives on the line on Saturday night, the New Orleans Pelicans put on a show and out-slugged the defending champions Golden State Warriors in a spellbinding 126-120 victory at the Oracle Arena.
In a match-up highlighting two of the game's best performers, Anthony Davis of the Pelicans finished with 34 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks while Kevin Durant led the Warriors with 41 points in a losing effort.
The huge win, their third in a row, improved New Orleans' slate to 46-34, putting them in position to annex a playoffs berth with two to go in the 82-game schedule. The Warriors, meanwhile, dropped to 57-23 but remain a lock as the No.2 seed in the talent-rich Western Conference.
Despite his MVP-like performance, Davis, more notoriously known as 'The Brow' needed a lot of help.
Nikola Mirotic fired six triples to finish with 28 points. Jrue Holiday added 25 points and six dimes while veteran Rajon Rondo chipped in 12 points and 17 rebounds. E'Taun Moore drilled 15 points, including an 18-footer that gave the Pelicans a 123-119 cushion in the final 23.5 seconds of play.
