
WPC Qualifiers Starts Today with Record Number of Entries

MANILA, PHILIPPINES -- The qualifying tournament for the 2007 World Pool Championship opens today (Saturday, Oct. 27) at the Star Billiards Center in Quezon City with a record 180 players competing for 10 slots in the WPC.
Players from 18 countries have signed up for the 10 events.
Countries with the most number of entries are:
Taiwan ? 43
Japan ? 20
China ? 9
Vietnam ? 8
Singapore ? 8
Kuwait ? 8
Saudi Arabia -- 5
Philippines -- 50
The other players come from Denmark, Finland, United Kingdom, Thailand, Hong Kong, Cyprus, Brunei, Indonesia, Canada, France Korea, Yemen and Turkey.
The qualifiers will run from Oct. 27 to 31. Two events will be staged each day.
The competition format is single elimination (knockout system). Each match is race to 7, alternate break.
The first qualifier each day starts at 8:00 a.m. The second qualifier begins immediately after the first event is finished.
The Star Billiards Center is the premier billiards facility in the Philippines. It features Brunswick tables, Simonis cloth, and Aramith pro balls ? all standard equipment for the WPC.
Star Billiards management led by owner Sebastian Chua has prepared its facility and fully mobilized its staff to ensure a successful qualifying tournament for the WPC.
