FORMER NCFP CHESS DIRECTOR AND BENGUET GOVERNOR RAUL "ROCKY" MOLINTAS DIES

Manila, Philippines---FILIPINO chess community mourn the loss of former National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) board of director and Benguet governor Raul "Rocky" Mencio-Molintas who passed away on February 14, 2018 in San Francisco, California, United States.

He was 60.

"Great loss sa chess family. He loved chess during our student days. He loved and supported chess when he was a Governor even when he was a retired politician. He supported our chess family. He loved his family and his constituents. Salute to our Gov and our Chess player," said NCFP board of director Judge Gonzalo Mapili Jr.

Gov. Molintas, Judge Mapili and Manolito "Toto" Ferrer of Active Chess Center of Asia (ACCA) were responsible for putting St. Louis University chess team on the chess map in the Philippines in 1975 and 76.

"We lost a good friend in the chess community," added Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) president Atty. Cliburn Anthony A. Orbe, treasurer of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).

"His death was a big loss for Philippine chess,? said seven-times Philippine Executive champion Dr. Jenny Mayor.
