Mariano, who graduated Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication major in Broadcasting at the University of the East (UE) Recto, Manila won the Open division title in the said chessfest.
They never met again until Antonio issued a challenge for a rematch and Mariano readily accepted it.

In the side event, Atty. Orbe toppled Jerson Bitoon, younger brother of US based Grandmaster Richard Bitoon, 2-0.

"Atty. Cliburn Anthony A. Orbe I demand a rematch," said Jerson, one of the top players of multi-titled University of Sto. Tomas chess team during his College days.
