CHICAGO -- After an initial hiccup. the Chicago Bulls and the New Orleans have finally reached an agreement to send Nikola Mirotic to the Pelicans for Omer Asik, Jameer Nelson, Tony Allen and a protected first-round pick in the 2018 draft.
The deal initially fell through when the Pelicans refused to pick up the $12.8 million salary that Mirottic is owed next season.
The 6-foot-10, 225-pound Mirotic is having a spectacular season, averaging 16.8 points per game while shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from 3-point range. But after an October fight at practice with teammate Bobby Portis, a physical altercation in which Mirotic sustained a broken jaw, the sweet shooting small forward demanded a trade.
The Pelicans are hoping to shore up their offense in the wake of center DeMarcus Cousins' season-ending injury. (HDS)
