THE RED Boxing International now has its own boxing gym and promotional office in Los Angeles, California in an effort to help more the Filipino boxers campaigning in the United States.
The boxing gym, which is formally owned by ex-Mexican boxer Salvador ?Diablito? Casillas, is located at 1124 Atlantic Avenue, Lynwood while beside it is the office at 1121 Atlantic Avenue, Lynwood.
?It?s a promotion and gym. Magkatabi lang,? said proprietor Rey ?Cacoi? Perez II of RED Boxing International.
However, the gym and office will still be renovated.
Rodis, who is also a music and movie producer, has another office for his Spearhead Studio at the 1707 Vermont St., Los Angeles.
Rodis now wants to promote his own boxing card to give more exposure for the Filipino boxers in the US.
?This is for the Filipino people. I don?t have to do this,? said Rodis, a nephew of former world champion Rene Barrientos from Cagayan de Oro City.
Rodis? two Filipino boxers Recky ?The Terror? Dulay and Rey ?Technician? Perez were previously training at the Santa Cruz Gym also in California.
Dulay bowed to Dardan Zenunaj by a TKO last Sept. 30 at the House of Blues in Boston in their championship fight for the vacant WBO NABO super featherweight title.
Perez, on the other hand, lost by a unanimous decision to Lamont Roach last November 30 at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill.
Rodis did not took any single cent from Perez? US$6,000 purse.
?Sa next fight na ako kukuha kasi I want him (Perez) to take care of his family first,? said Rodis, a grandson of the late boxing promoter-manager Dr. Antonio Almirante.
?Naaawa lang talaga ako. Wala nang Pinoy daug daugon,? said Rodis.
?We?ll start promoting and turn the table around,? said Rodis, whose father Rey also promoted former world champions Dodie Boy and Gerry Penalosa in the past.
