Mark Magsayo had an impressive victory last Saturday, but admitted he had some flaws, especially in the later rounds. ?For me, I think I need a lot of improvement,? said Magsayo. He won by unanimous decision over Shota Hayashi in the main event of Pinoy Pride 43 and successfully defended his World Boxing Organization (WBO) international featherweight title. Though he was more patient, Magsayo still showed his tendency to become reckless, which showed in the later rounds.

?He has the talent. He just needs to gain more maturity, improve his defense, and be more focused,? said head coach Edito Villamor over SunStar. Magsayo, also looked a bit tired in the later rounds but he never stopped throwing his punches, showing a lot of heart. ?Mark just has to pace his punches now but he had a lot of great combinations. You also have to give credit to the Japanese because he came here to fight. Because when you fight and someone that has nothing to lose, it?s not easy," said Michael Aldeguer.

But Aldeguer said there?s no substitute for experience as he always emphasized. He added "Mark will always learn from every fight. Right now there?s always the pressure of, is he ready for a world title. I?ll give him more time to really mature and learn from this." Aldeguer thinks that Magsayo, still needs to improve more his techniques and stamina before he will be ready to fight for a world title. A possible option is to face American Joseph Diaz Jr. in an eliminator to earn a shot at WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez.

He is one of the hottest commodity in the ALA stable, but still they are not rushing him. ?We?re looking at one more fight and see. There?s no need to rush. I would rather make him a long world champion, a star that he can become, he has the potential to be that. Why rush him. If it?s pressed for time, we?ll grab it. If you give him more time, he?ll be greater,? declared Aldeguer. Magsayo is in a division of elite fighters like Oscar Valdez, Leo Santa Cruz, Abner Mares, Gary Russell Jr., Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg.

Aldeguer thinks that Magsayo still needs to polish his potentials, but he also believes that he can fight with some of the best in the featherweight. If given more time to improve he will become a threat to the division's elite. ?He could be ready, but as what I?ve said, Mark would be better if we give him more time. But he can be ready, he?s ready. But he?ll be more devastating if you give him more time to mature,? he said. We agree with the ALA boss and we believe the young star has his right time to shine brighter.

Billy Joe Saunders will defend his WBO middleweight title against former IBF champion David Lemieux on December 16 at the Place Bell in Laval, Quebec, Canada. Saunders won his WBO belt beating Andy Lee by a 12 round majority decision. Saunders has defended it twice against Artur Akavov and Willie Monroe Jr. The World Boxing Organization ranked a good contender at No.1 in placing the hard hitting Lemieux as Saunders? mandatory challenger. Saunders will now defend his WBO strap against one of the most dangerous fighters in the division.

The Boston Celtics struggled in their early years in the NBA, until they hired coach Red Auerbach. In the early days, Auerbach had no assistants, he ran all the practices, did all the scouting of opposing teams and college prospects, and scheduled all the road trips. Bob Cousy, whom Auerbach initially refused to draft from nearby Holy Cross because he was "too flashy," became the player of the Chicago Stags, but when that franchise went bankrupt, Cousy went to the Celtics in a dispersal draft.

After the 1955?56 season, Auerbach selected University of San Francisco center Bill Russell. He also acquired Holy Cross standout, and 1957 NBA Rookie of the Year, Tommy Heinsohn. Russell and Heinsohn were the players around whom Auerbach would build the champion Celtics for more than a decade. With Bill Russell, the Celtics in 1957 won the first of their record 17 championships. Russell went on to win 11 championships, the most by a player in NBA history.
