FORMER interim WBO Asia Pacific Youth Glenn ?The Rock? Porras of the Philippines will be fighting ex-world title challenger Noldi Manakane of Indonesia for the vacant WBC Asia Boxing Council super bantamweight title on November 25 at 6 p.m. at the UM Gym in Tagum City.
The 10-round title fight is one of the four championships slated in ?The Redemption? boxing promotion of MB Northstar Boxing Promotions and the RATIM Sports Promotion.
It is held in coordination with the Tagum Circue of Shooters Inc. and Maco Golden Valley Eagles Club.
Porras of the Panabo City-based MB Northstar Boxing Stable previously captured the vacant Mindanao Professional Boxing Federation (MinProBA) super bantamweight title by stopping Dingdong Quinones in the first round only last Sept. 15 at the Panabo City Gym.
Porras (30W-6L-0D, 18 KOs) is a former interim WBO Asia Pacific Youth and Philippine bantamweight champion.
?Himuon nako ang tanan para maka daug ko sa Indonesian,? (I will do everything to win over the Indonesian) said the 32-year old Porras, a native of M?lang, North Cotabato.
Manager Engr. Jilson Basang, however, said that Porras should not take his Indonesian opponent lightly.
?Matibay at beterano din yun kalaban ni Porras,? said Basang.
Manakane is a veteran of 56 fights with 32 wins and 18 knockouts.
He is a former PABA bantamweight , Indonesia Boxing Association (IBA) featherweight, super bantamweight and super flyweight champion.
Manakane, a former world title contender, was able to challenge WBA World bantamweight champion Koki Kameda of Japan on April 4, 2012 in Yokohama. Manakane, however, lost by a unanimous decision.
He also fought but lost for the WBC Asia Pacific super flyweight title via a 6th round knockout against Thailand?s Suriya Tatakhun in Nonthaburi in 2014.
