Filipino Flyweight Robert "El Rapido" Onggocan (R) weighed-in at 50.1 kg (110.45 lbs) while tough undefeated Deutsche boxer Mirco Martin made 49.9 Kg (110 lbs) ahead of their 10-rounder today Saturday (Aug 12) in Saarbr?cken, Saarland, situated next to the French-German border.
The weigh-in ceremony took place Friday at Kraftwerk Fitness Club with the Filipino looking taller than the German, both fighters noticeably in excellent shape.
In his last duel last June, the quick Robert Onggocan (9-1, 5 KO's) stopped compatriot Marjun Pantilgan in round 9 in Laguna, Philippines, to retain his red-and-gold IBF Youth flyweight belt; and now Onggocan targets Martin in Germany.
The German Mirco Martin, meanwhile, comes from dismantling certifiably patsy Richard Voros (6-44, 1 KO) of Hungary last March in Darmstadt.
Robert Onggocan is the toughest challenge so far for the 25-year-old Mirco "The Comet" Martin; though rough for Onggocan is that he battles a fighter in his own backyard with the crowd cheering for his opponent's attacks.
The 21-year-old Onggocan (9-1, 5 KO's) is handled by coach DIno Olivetti, 43, of Bi?an City, Laguna, head of the popular Olivetti Boxing Gym, while "The Comet" Mirco Martin (9-0, 5 KO's) is promoted by veteran man of boxing Michael Siegel of Baden Box Promotions.
The Martin vs Onggocan battle promises to be an exciting match of will and talent with both young warriors aiming for victory, the winner advancing his boxing career.
