WARNING TO JEFF HORN

This might as well serve as warning to Jeff Horn, who will be challenging Manny Pacquiao for the latter?s World Boxing Organization welterweight title on July 2 at the Suncorp Arena in Brisbane.

When the Philippines boxing pride Manny Pacquiao beat Antonio Margarito to pulps on November 13, 2010 to crown himself the World Boxing Council super-welterweight champion, he gave up at least three inches in height and six inches in reach.

Pacquiao, who then had just won the World Boxing Organization welterweight championship at the expense of Miguel Cotto a year earlier and then had successfully defended the same seven months to the Margarito bout on March 3, 2010, barely made the weight limit of 154 pounds during weigh-in on the evn of he fight.

On fight night, Margarito, then the former World Boxing Association, WBO and International Boxing Federation 147-pound titlist, weighed 160 pounds, 12 pounds heavier than Pacquiao, yet the Filipino outworked him by connecting 411 eleven power punches of the 713 thrown as against 135 of his opponent.

The Pacman actually landed a total 474 shots, which went into the books as the 8th all-time in title fights.

Meaning, according to Pacquiao?s childhood friend and assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez, that size, at least in his ward?s case, does not always win fights.

?Truth is, we love fighting bigger opponents than Manny? size,? Buboy told Spin.ph during a lull in training last week at the Elorde Gym in Pasay City. ?Those who are saying Manny will find it hard beating Horn because of size difference, we don? believe in that. No, not that over-confident kami. Haven?t you noticed, lahat ng nakalaban ni Manny mula nang umakyat siya ng timbang sa welterweight, mas malalaki sa kanya,? Buboy reasoned out.

?Except, of course (Juan Manuel) Marquez. At lahat tinalo ni Manny,? he added in reference to ring legend Oscar DeLa Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Joshua Clottey, Shane Mosley, Timothy, Brandon Rios, Chris Algieri and Jessie Vargas, among others, all of whom the three-time boxer of the year disposed off one-after another the past seven year of his career.

?Mas malaki ang kalaban ni Manny, mas at home siya. Una, mas madaling patamaan. Kahit saan suntukin, tiyak tatamaan,? he said rather kiddingly.

?Margarito is the tallest Manny had faced a 5-feet-11 and he beat him to pulps. Yung iba, like De La Hoya, Hatton, etc, Konti lang ang taas, pero bugbog din. Si Hatton, tulog dalawang round lang,? he recalled.

Against Olymic gold medalist DeLa Hoya, Buboy recalled, the former Sarangani Congressman now Senator threw 333 power punches, hitting his target 195 times as he in fact forced he Mexican-Amercan o surrender after eight rounds, in the process inducinghim to retire, too, o his stool.

Buboy said Pacquiao?s training is always geared on speed which he has in abundance, adding that even his boss? punching power is derived from his quickness in both his feet and fists.

?Manny?s power in his punches nanggagaling sa bilis. Manny is of a rare kind of fighter. Yung ibang boxer, mabilis lang, yung iba, malakas lang. Si Manny, mabilis na, malakas pa,? he pointed out.

Buboy said philosophically.

?Kaya if Horn?s camp believe lamang sila, they have to tink again,? Bboy warned.
