Lagos down and out.

Bukidnon-based boxer Eugene Lagos traveled thousands of miles to Mexico armed with his fists and the headset of pulling the upset against a world-rated hometown fighter.

Lagos failed miserably.

The young 21 year old suffered a brutal 3rd round knockout from the hands of Cesar Juarez, World Boxing Organization's Number 1 contender at Junior Featherweight Saturday night at the Auditoria Municipal in Tijuana.

Juarez, the mandatory to Jessie Magdaleno's 122 pound, easily disposed the hapless Filipino fighter with a vicious left hook in the dying seconds of the 3rd round that sent Lagos out cold.

There was no getting up for Lagos who wass noticeably without a familiar Filipino face in his corner during the scheduled 10 round bout that was shown in the United States via BeIn.

As he laid flat in the canvas after suffering the hard punch, Lagos' dreams of pulling the upset fizzled in thin air as the referee reached the full count of 10.

Juarez, who improved his record to 20-5 with 15 KOs, added Lagos to the list of Pinoy fighters that he had defeated. He knocked out previously undefeated Albert Pagara in San Mateo, California last summer and dominated Richard Pumicpic last October in Cabo, San Lucas.

His biggest opponent and fight to date was a slugfest against another Filipino - 2012's Fighter of the Year - Nonito Donaire Jr. in December of 2015 for the then vacant WBO 122 pound title. Donaire lost the belt to Magdaleno last November.

Lagos used his speed to evade some of Juarez' early attempts to put him down. He was wily and he made the Mexican missed wildly with some of his shots. The traveling Filipino was also able to sneak in some right hands to the body and head of the hometown fighter but that did not bother Juarez.

As the round nears its end, Juarez was able to force Lagos in the corner and after a pair of jabs and attempts to the body, a big left hook finished off Lagos' dreams in Mexico.

Lagos was assessed on the spot by a ring official as his corner surrounded him after the knockout. He was still down but was seen conscious as the official beamed a penlight to his eyes. The telecast ended without any signs of him up on his feet.
