Pacquiao-Khan is still a possibility according to Arum

New York - Do not bury the Manny Pacquiao vs. Amir Khan fight just yet.

In a recent interview with Pacquiao's promoter, Top Rank Boxing's Bob Arum did not rule out former junior welterweight titleholder Amir Khan as a possible opponent for the Filipino star.

"There's Amir Khan, he's a possibility if we can put something in the Middle East," Arum responded when asked whose names are in the shortlist to fight Pacquiao.

The names of welterweight contender Jeff Horn, who is Top Rank's initial choice for Pacquiao also came up, alongside former multi-division champion Adrien Broner and current WBO and WBC 140 pound champion Terence Crawford.

"Jeff Horn is a possibility for Australia and then going on, in months, there is (Adrien) Broner and (Terence) Crawford," added Arum.

If an opponent is named, Arum said that the fight will be held overseas but he is hoping that his star's next appearance will be in the United States.

"The first fight will be outside. Hopefully the fight in the fall or winter will be in the United States."

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sydney and Brisbane have been mentioned as possible venues for the next Pacquiao show in previous reports from various news outlets.

Earlier this month, Arum belied early reports of a UAE deal for Pacquiao and Khan and pronounced that the fight is "dead".

Asked if he's got a date in mind, Arum mentioned July as a possible month if the British born Khan is chosen.

"If it's Amir Khan, it has to be in July because of Ramadan."

Khan is a devout Muslim and typically takes a leave from fighting during the month-long observance of Ramadan.

This year, Ramadan is observed from May 26th to June 24th.

"We are working on that," said Arum on Pacquiao's next big fight. "We will have an announcement soon. We are getting close."
