GGG - Jacobs: Undercard results from The Garden: Cuadras Ekes Out Close Decision Win Over Carmona

New York - The first bout of the night was a 4 round welterweight contest between undefeated Serhii Bohachuck (2-0, 2 KOS) of Vinitza, Ukraine and Yasmani Pedroso (1-1-0, 1 KO) of Miami, Florida.
Bohachuck was on point from the start of the fight, he was landing his hooks early against a wary foe. Pedroso was down twice in the 3rd, the first knockdown courtesy of a well-placed left hook.The Ukrainian then ended the fight with a right hook that sent Pedroso down again.
Pedrosa looked dazed by that shot and Referee Ron Lipton stopped the bout in favor of the now 3-0 Bohachuck. Time was 2:28 of the 3rd.
McKinney upsets McFarlane
Matt McKinney (3-2-2, 1 KOs) of Oceanside, CA outplayed previously undefeated Jay McFarlane (2-0, 2 KOs) of Glasgow, Scotland resulting in a Majority Decision win for the Californian heavyweight.
Both big fighters winged big shots at each other in the course of the 4 round bout but neither fighter went down. McKinney was favored by two of three judges at ringside because of his counterpunching and better defense.
Scores were an even 38-38 on one judge which was overturned by two score cards of 37-39 in McKinney's favor.
Lee defeats Leatherwood
Former World Boxing Organization (WBO) middleweight titleholder, Andy Lee (34-3-1, 24 KOs) of Limerick, Ireland chalked up another win at The Garden when he won an 8 round middleweight decision over KeAndrae Leatherwood (19-3-1, 12 KOs) of Birmingham, Alabama.
The lackluster bout between the two elicited boos and yawns from the early crowd that flocked the arena known as the Mecca of Boxing.
Lee scored a highlight-reel KO performance when he last fought here in 2014 but this fight had few highlights except from few exchanges between the two fighters in the early rounds. Leatherwood elected to box against the dangerous former champ who was coming from long absence in the ring. Lees last fight was in December of 2015 when he lost the title to Billy Joe Saunders in the United Kingdom.
Scores were 80-72, 78-74 and 79-73 for Lee who solidified his ranking as a contender in the 160 pound division.
Martin halts Cruz
Lightweights Ryan Martin (17-0, 10 KOs) of Cleveland, Ohio and Bryant Cruz (17-1-0, 8 KOs) of Port Chester, NY ushered in the TV bouts for tonight's HBO's pay-per-view presentation.
The taller Martin with his reach advantage in tow, effectively used the jab against Cruz. A combo of body and head shots ensued from the undefeated boxer after blinding his counterpart with his stinging jabs.
He started to hurt the New Yorker in the 5th with a straight right hand. Bloodied and hurt, Cruz was a target for that right hand that frequently found its mark. Martin forced Cruz to the ropes numerous times and unloaded heavily against his trapped foe.
A series of unanswered shots in the 8th (45 seconds) forced Referee Harvey Dock to stop the fight giving Martin a TKO victory and the World Boxing Council (WBC) American Continental Lightweight title.
Cuadras decisions Carmona
Former World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Flyweight champion Carlos Cuadras (35-1, 27 KOs) escaped with a close Unanimous Decison nod over countryman David Carmona (20-3-5, 8 KOs).
Cuadras, who suffered his first defeat and subsequently lost his WBC belt to Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzales last year in Inglewood, California, won with an uninspiring performance that netted scores of 97-93, 97-93 and 96-94 in the 10 round contest.
The result was greeted with boos from the crowd who thought Carmona won the fight. They even cheered him after he saluted the crowd after the fight.
Cuadras was content in fighting sporadically, he would throw occasionally but he would not follow that up with more meaningful combinations.
On the other hand, Carmona was able to counter successfully against Cuadras, he was able to land occasional punches to the body and head - shots that were shown in the big screen of The Garden - which probably why the crowd was biased against the former champ.
Cuadras is hoping that he will have another chance to avenge his defeat against Chocolatito but that would be a hard sell after tonight's performance.
