Czar Amonsot who engaged Australian warrior Michael Katsidis in a bloody WBO lightweight interim title fight last July 21 and dropped a twelve round decision after turning Katsidis? face into a grotesque mask, is scheduled to undergo a thorough medical checkup next week to find out whether he could be cleared to resume fighting.
Amonsot was released after a series of tests conducted by specialists at the Valley Medical Center where Amonsot as well as Katsidis were taken after their exciting brawl at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Boxing patron Tony Aldeguer told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that should Amonsot be given a clean bill of health he would resume training for a possible fight on a big card likely to be staged at the Araneta Coliseum on October 8 in a partnership between the acknowledged ?Mecca? of Philippine sports and entertainment and the Viva Entertainment Group headed by Vic del Rosario.
Following initial concern over a tiny blood clot outside the brain, Amonosot was given a clean bill of health after CT Scans and an MRI were studied by specialist Dr. Debra Nelson who said it was all clear. The doctor even said that Amonsot may someday be a world champion.
Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer had earlier said that Amonosot suffered ?very minor subdural hematoma but nothing that was life threatening.?
Aldeguer made it clear that he wanted to be one hundred percent sure that Amonost was perfectly normal before allowing him to return to the ring.
The planned blockbuster fight card would also feature the return of Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista following his stunning first round knockout at the hands of WBO super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon in the World Cup at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California last August 11 in which Bautista was the only Filipino to lose in a 5-1 rout of a powerhouse Mexican team.
The plan was for Bautista to face Feider Viloria whom he was scheduled to fight in the US previously. However, Viloria (20-2-1, 14 KO?s) surprisingly suffered a fifth round TKO at the hands of Antonio Escalante (15-2, 10 KO?s) in Arizona today, prompting Aldeguer to look for another opponent with Escalante among the possibilities.
