EDUARDO JIMENEZ SLOWLY MAKING WAVES IN THE LOCAL CEBU OPEN BOXING SCENE

Winning gold in a national open boxing championships is a task that requires strong will and determination but winning it thrice in a row is something that brings about Spartan tenacity. You have to ask someone who's been there and most of them will tell you same thing: it's easier the first time around but it will be much harder trying to replicate what you have done. In the amateur ranks, you fight on a daily basis against the very best and if you're not fortunately enough to receive a bye in the draw, you need to hurdle through two eliminations, then quarterfinals, semis and finally the gold medal match. You have to maintain weight all throughout the competition as long as you are still in contention, not to mention being in tip-top shape to remain on the apex.
Eduardo Jimenez is taking it slowly but surely towards the top. He's also moving away from the shadow of his equally accomplished brother, Junrel Jimenez now a pro boxer. The elder sibling also has amassed a good number of national titles during his stint in the amateurs.
The 14-year old has already competed in four national tournaments, winning three golds and a silver. The three consecutive gold medals came from Batang Pinoy National Championships in 2014 in Bacolod City, 2015 in Cebu City and this year in Tagum City. He also won a silver medal in Palarong Pambansa in Albay and five more gold medals in several area and regional tournaments. These feats were properly recognised as he was chosen to lit the games cauldron on this year's Cebu City Olympics and was also a recipient of a citation from Sportswriters Association of Cebu-San Miguel Beer Sports Awards.
"I want to continue boxing because it's a means of helping my family. I also want to represent the country in international tournaments if given a chance" stated the high school student from Abellana National School. He further stressed the importance of being able to continue studying while training for tournaments and asking for divine guidance thru prayers. All these add up to something that may be a tell-tale sign of good things to come for this young pug from Sitio Alaska in Mambaling, Cebu and the maturity he's showing well beyond his 14-year mind frame.
