LAS VEGAS, NV ? Hometown favourite Jessie Magadaleno outboxed Filiino Nonito Donaire in one of the undercards of the Manny Pacquiao-Vargas mainer to wrest the World Boing Organization junior featherweight title Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center here.
Donaire fought tentatively, failing to impress the three judges who all voted for the challenger as winner of the 12-round contest.
Judge Adalyde Bird had the new champ victory in an overwhelming verdict, while judges Burt Clements and Steve Weisfeld saw the fight closer in an identical 116-112 decision.
Mexican Oscar Valdez hardly sweated it out disposing of Japanese Hiroshige Ogawa and protecting his unblemished record in the sixth round of a 12-rounder.
That was the power-punching Valdez?s 22 straight victory in a young boxing career and his 19th via stoppage.
Chinese to-time Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming crowned himself the WBO international flyweight king with a unanimous decision win in another 12-round setto.
Zou?s compatriot Que Xu was not as fortunate losing to Fernando Fuentes in a six-round featherweight matchup. Robson Conceicao debuted as a pro width flying colors, beating Clay Burn in another six-ronder.
Alexander Besputin of Oxnard in California bested Russian Azael Cosio in he loe eight-round super welterweight encounter.
