Las Vegas, NV - Unbeaten challenger, Jessie Magdaleno dismissed reigning champion Nonito Donaire Jr. in 12 rounds of gritty action to win the WBO Junior Featherweight world title - his first in his young career.

Magdaleno comfortably won the first two rounds against a tentative Donaire Jr., whom he beat with straights and hooks from the opening bell.

Donaire Jr. woke up in the 3rd and preyed on his young opponent. He continued the stalking in the 4th but is unable to land his dangerous left hook against a very mobile Magdaleno.

The challenger had a big 6th round where he landed plenty against the champion. He worked on Donaire's body in the 7th and 8th round, piling up more points for his cause.

Magdaleno almost sent Donaire Jr. down in the 9th when he pinned him in the ropes and after raining heavy punches on a defensive foe. Referee Tony Weeks kept a close eye on Donaire Jr. during the siege but the Filipino fighter did not go down despite the barrage of shots from Magdaleno.

Sensing that he's down in the cards, the champ took control of the 10th and 11th against Magdaleno who seemed to take a breather. He looked for the knock down and the knockout in the 12th and final round but Magdaleno was not an easy prey to put down.

Magdaleno got the nod of all three judges at ringside with scores of 116-112 on the cards of Burt Clemens and Steve Weisfeld while Adelaide Byrd had a 118- 110 mark for the new WBO Junior Featherweight champion.
