LAS VEGAS, Nev. ? Everybody?s here to lend Filipino ring hero Manny Pacquiao moral support in his coming showdown with Mexican-American Jessie Vargas in his attempt to recapture the World Boxing Organization welterweight crown.
The Pambansang Kamao?s mom, Aling Dionisia or Mommy D, is here along with other sons Councilor Bobby and Congressman Roel and their families.
So do wife Jinkee, her brothers, sisters and, their families, too
But where?s Pacman?
Remember Pacman, Pacquiao?s favorite dog? His running mate, pacer wherever he does his roadwork while preparing for a fight ? Kennon Road or Marcos Highway in the Philippines, Griffith Park in Los Angeles? Wherever?
Well, it looks like he?s been retired. If his long-time caretaker of 10 years is to be believed.
?Hindi na isinama ni Manny, kasi matanda na raw at mahina na,? Noel Lautengco, Jinkee?s uncle-n-law, Pacman?s adopted father since Pacquiao acquired ownership of the dog from original owner and the Pambansang Kamao?s assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez.
?Ako na ang naging tagapag-alaga in Pacman mula nang mahingi siya ni Manny kay Buboy noong 2006,? Lautengco told this writer when asked more than a month ago when Pacquiao started training in Manila and fans started missing him.
?Mula nga noong magsimula si Manny ng ensayo sa Manila pa lang, ang dami nang nagtatanong kung bakit hindi na kasama si Pacman sa ensayo, lalo sa pagtakbo,? Lautengco, husband of Jinkee?s aunt Marlene, narrated.
From the time Pacman was acquired by Pacquiao, the canine has been shuttling back and forth from Los Angeles, where Lautengco is based, to the country whenever the eight-division boxing champion is training earning the sobriquet ?the most traveled dog in the world.?
When in the Philippines, Pacman stayed and slept in the room of Pacquio and Jinkee. He even often shared the bed with the ring icon when Jinkee wasn?t around. When running time came, Pacman himself woke Pacquiao up Lautengco swore.
?Nakakalungkot nga, imagine more than 10 years ko siyang alaga, dinadala sa Maynila kapag kailangan. At ibinanbalik sa L.A.,? Lautengco said.
?If I have my say nga, dapat isinama kasi isa sa mga good luck charm ni Manny si Pacman,? he added.
