Please join the American Association for Respiratory Care, the California Society for Respiratory Care and your respiratory therapists in celebrating this annual event that recognizes the respiratory care profession and raises awareness for improving lung health around the world. Respiratory therapists specialize in diagnostics, treatment and prevention of lung disease and medical conditions that make breathing difficult. Specialties include neonatal-pediatrics, geriatrics, emergency care, pulmonary rehabilitation, acute care, home care, education, sleep disorder.

It is with hope that this article will help in the prevention of the leading cause of preventable death worldwide. Smoking and tobacco use causes nearly 6 million deaths per year (source: Center for Disease Control and Prevention and AARC.org).
