The World Boxing Council and four of its superstars - Julio Cesar Chavez, Roberto "Manos de Piedra" Duran, Roy Jones Jr and Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, have helped launch a brand new Hublot watch in the hue of the WBC colors, at the St Regis Hotel, in the heart of Mexico City.
The WBC recalls that ?Hublot helped the late great visionary Don Jose Sulaiman raise a million dollars from an auction, to start a fund for retired boxers, who`ve fallen on hard times, and continue their support for this worthwhile and humanitarian cause.?
The superstar quartet turned up a tad late to the packed out event, but that was because the presentation of their watches in this new edition, had to wait, until seconds after the presentation of Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe. A timely hand in glove reminder that between them, JC, Roberto, Roy and Gennady, have fought 419 times and clocked 262 opponents.
The WBC reported that ?when the big hand reached the top of the hour, the mighty quartet each offered up a right mitt, to making a sizeable dent and impression via plaster imprint, to impress in a shimmering spotlight created by a bank of constantly flashing cameras, which constantly kept on clicking, yet no one seemed to be ticked off.?
And in a perfectly timed response to the watch launch, World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, presented Hublot`s time keepers, with an exquisite Aztec calendar, set into a tablet of oak, harking back to the era when folks told the time less precisely than Hublot, by the sun, moon, stars and the seasons.
Roy Jones Jr applauded the help Hublot is providing saying: "I think it`s fantastic! So many people take money out of boxing, but so few ever give back. For me it`s a very beautiful thing that can and is happening. I also think that boxing managers shouldn`t be able to take any more than 25 percent of any boxer`s purse. That`s what I want to see in boxing."
World Boxing Council President Mauricio thanked Hublot for helping former boxers to avoid living in dire poverty, want and need, helping to create the fund, which provides them with a dignified life covering their daily needs and medical care.
