Two Cebuano open boxing pugs will have the biggest break of their blossoming careers as they get a chance to represent the country in the prestigious Tammer Tournament in Tampere, Finland. Talisay City-native Kit Ceron Garces will fight in the 49-kg. division while Jorge Edusma, originally from Consolacion will box in the 56-kg. class.
Two more boxers from the boxing powerhouse city of Cagayan de Oro will also compete. Marvin Tabamo and Sugar Ray Ocana will fight in the 52-kg. and 64-kg. division, respectively.
"This will be a very big opportunity to represent the country in international tournaments, something that I really dreamed of ever since I started boxing", stated Garces, who will also be celebrating his birthday on the 17th.
The team are already in Manila, doing final preparations at the ABAP boxing gym after months of rigorous preparations at the national training facility in Baguio City. They will depart Manila on the 19th for Tampere with stop overs in Istanbul, Turkey and the capital city of Helsinki. They will arrive in the inland city of Tampere on the 21st in time for the general weigh-in.
Considered one of the most respected Olympic style boxing tournaments in the world, Tammer Turnaus will once again be held at Pyynikki Sports Hall on October 21 to 23. Since it`s inception in 1977, the competition has been participated by some of the best in the sport, most notably former undisputed heavyweight champion "Iron" Mike Tyson, former Olympic champion and multi-division titlist Oscar "The Golden Boy " dela Hoya and 2012 London Games gold medalist Luke Campbell.
