Sonora, Mexico?s avid boxing fans came out Saturday night to support their champion ? Juan Francisco ?El Gallo? Estrada ? in his first fight at a higher weight class.

Estrada, the former WBO and WBA (112 pound) flyweight titlist, entertained the hometown crowd with a showcase of his boxing arsenal against an opponent who had to travel halfway across the globe this week to meet his foe.

Estrada (33-2, 24 KOs), dominated Raymond John Tabugon (18-5-1, 8 KOs) of General Santos City, Cotobato del Sur, Philippines in a one-sided 10 round flyweight shutout at the Estadio Francisco Leon Garc?a in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico.

The Mexican fighter unleashed powerful combinations, uppercuts and body shots against a lesser but tough Filipino foe in 10 rounds of action in his first venture in the 115 weight class. He wobbled Tabugon early in the 3rd round with a straight right hand that landed squarely on Tabugon?s face.

Attempting to finish his shaky foe in the next round, Estrada upped his attack on Tabugon in the 4th but the Filipino took Estrada?s shots well and survived an early scare.

Tabugon was not only able to take his opponent?s punches but he was also able to derail Estrada?s attack with an effective jab followed by an occasional chopping right hand in the 6th.

But that deflection won?t hold Estrada for long as he stunned Tabugon again in the 7th and 8th round. Tabugon was saved by the ropes in the 8th from a potential knockdown courtesy of strong head shots from the former 112 pound champion.

All judges of the bout had an easy night at ringside and all are in agreement with scores of 100- 90. Tabugon, the tough, natural flyweight never tasted the canvas despite the shots he took but he was clearly overmatched against a former world champion whose one of only two defeats came in the hands of reigning pound-for-pound king ? Roman ?Chocolatito? Gonzales.

Gonzales defeated Estrada via Unanimous Decision in a WBA Light Flyweight (108 pound) title match in Los Angeles in 2012.

Estrada?s climb to the 115 pound division is an obvious pursuit of the undefeated Gonzales (46-0) who only last month won the WBC Super Flyweight world title against its former holder ? Carlos Cuadras - in his first fight at 115.

A rematch between the two at their current weight is not unlikely given their history and standing in the sport.
