In an anticipated rematch of a war that ended in a draw earlier this year, Japan`s Yoshihiro Kamegai (27-3-2, 24 KOs) left no doubt this time, dominating Mexican Jesus Soto Karass (28-11-4, 18 KOs) from the opening bell on Saturday night at the Forum in Los Angeles to win a gripping ten round bout.
The WBC reported that Soto Karass was hurt with a body shot to the liver in round one and was never in it after that as Kamagai pressed the action, landing often with hard right hands.
Soto Karass, who landed some good shots of his own, lacked defense and was an easy target for the energetic and persistent Kamagai. The end came in round eight when Kamegai battered the game Soto Karass, then dropped him.
Soto Karass only just made it to his feet, and did well to finish the round, but his corner stopped the fight.
