
IOC PRES. THOMAS BACH PRAISES AIBA FOR SUCCESSFUL RIO OLYMPIC BOXING

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach praised International Boxing Association (AIBA) in a letter thru its President Ching-Kuo Wu for remarkable success of the Boxing Tournament at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
The AIBA website aiba.org published the letter which state that "On behalf of the Olympic Movement, I would like to express our deepest gratitude for your contribution and dedication to ensuring the success of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad Rio de Janeiro."
The IOC head stated that during the past 19 days on the first Olympic Games in South America, the world?s best athletes provided us with thrilling competitions and memorable performances in stunning venues and the whole world witnessed the Brazilians? warmth, hospitality and passion for sports.
The IOC observed that the broadcast of the Games reached record numbers of viewers and unparalleled numbers engaged with the Games through social and digital media.
"Your commitment and leadership in addressing challenges and keeping a focus on your sport and your athletes were the key factor for the success of the Games," Bach further told Wu.
Bach once more thanked AIBA "for the work accomplished in the context of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad and look forward to continuing our close collaboration as we work towards the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 and the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020."
He said "he was delighted to have shared your sport and shared these memorable moments with you."
There were 76 Countries represented at the Rio 2016 Olympic Boxing Tournament and 19 nations won at least one boxing medal.
Robson Concei??o?s won the lightweight (60kg) final and handed Brazil its first ever Olympic boxing gold medal.
Britain?s Nicola Adams (51kg) and the USA?s Claressa Shields (75kg) became the first women boxers to successfully defend their Olympic titles.
Cuba?s Robeisy Ramirez (56kg) won a second gold after his flyweight (52kg) title in 2012 in London, just at the age 22 years old.
France?s six medals was their best performance at the Olympic Games, while Estelle Mossely (60kg) and Tony Yoka (+91kg) won gold medals, the first for their country since 2000 in Sydney.
Filip Hrgovic?s super heavyweight bronze (+91kg) was Croatia?s first ever Olympic boxing medal.
Filipino Rogen Ladon's foe Yurberjen Martinez?s (49kg) silver medal was Colombia?s best-ever Olympic Boxing victory.
Uzbekistan?s seven-medal harvest was the country?s most successful performance in Olympic history.
