Unbeaten pound for pound No. 1 Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez of Nicaragua who challenges super flyweight champion Carlos Cuadras of Mexico at the Ingledwood Forum in California on September 10 is hard at work in preparation for what is expected to be a tough battle.
The WBC reports that "The Summit" Gym in California of Abel Sanchez, who is the trainer of Gennady Golovkin, opened its doors wide to all the media so they could have a glimpse of Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez hard at work.
Gonzalez told the media "I feel motivated. I will turn 2 months training here, soon. All the work has been worth the benefits."
Talking about his rival Carlos Cuadras, "Chocolatito" ruefully reflected: "Carlos is my friend, and we have known each other for a long time. We have different personalities, I prefer to prove things inside the ring; but I want to tell him I will give my very best. Winning a 4th world crown will be just great for my country, my family, and all the people who believe in me. I believe we will get the triumph on September 10th."
Chocolatito's decision to move up to super flyweight will put a hold on the plans of former WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes who relinquished his title to nmove up to flyweight in the hope of facing Chocolatitod in the future. Nietes, the longest-reiging Filipino world champion takes on former champion and current No.4 ranked Edgar Sosa in Nietes first venture into the 112 pound division at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California on September 24. Nietes is currently training at the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach in Los Angeles along with Mark "Magnifico" Magsayo and King Arthur Villanueva who will be featured on the undercard to be telecast by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN and the widely-followed TFC, The Filipino Channel, especially in the middle-east.
