FORMER Philippine Boxing Federation champion Roque ?Fireman? Lauro will again be challenging reigning WBC Asian Boxing Council flyweight champion Nawaphon Kaikanha today (July 22) at the Lad Sawai Market in Pathum Thani, Thailand.
?Ito yong matagal ko nang hinihintay, ang aming rematch,? (This is what I have long been waiting for, our rematch) said Lauro, who is accompanied by international promoter-matchmaker Brico Santig.
Aside from Santig, also assisting Lauro at his corner tonight is Thailand-based trainer Supanat Chanram.
Three years ago, Lauro lost by a unanimous decision to Kaikanha in their first championship fight at the King Ramesuan Provincial Stadium in Lop Buri, Thailand.
?Gusto kong makaganti sa kanya. Kukunin ko ang korona sa kanya,? (I want to get my revenge and take away the crown from him) said the 30-year old Lauro.
Lauro, however, is fresh from a UD loss to WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental light flyweight champion Siridech Deebook (9-3-1) in a title-fight held last June 3 in Thailand.
Lauro, a native of Butuan City, also fought but lost to another Thai Pai Pharob (21-0) by a UD for the interim WBC ABCO light flyweight title last November 26, 2012.
Lauro last won by a 3rd round knockout against Daisuke Hayakawa (8-3-0) last March 15, 2015 at the Aioi Hall Kanya in Aichi, Japan.
Kaikanha, on the other hand, has successfully defended his crown 18 times already. The last one was 3rd round knockout win against another Filipino Macrea Gandionco last May 19 in Rayong, Thailand.
Kaikanha took the vacant WBC ABCO flyweight title via a 3rd round TKO win over Indonesian Alwi Alhabsvi last October 11, 2011 in Pathum Tani.
Kaikanha a clean record of 34 wins with 27 knockouts, no loss or draw, while Lauro has 13 wins, 18 losses, 5 draws, 3 Kos. - LITO DELOS REYES
