The Philippines No. 1 ranked WBO bantamweight Marlon Tapales is ready to give his best shot against champion Pungluang Sor Singyu of Thailand in the historic city of Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya, the ancient capital and modern city in the central plains some 85 kilometers north of the Thai capital of Bangkok on July 27.
In an interview with The Standard on Friday afternoon, Tapales said he is ?in fine condition and just right after a long preparation and has no problems with his weight.?
Since the title fight was postponed Tapales said he took advantage of the one month postponement and the delay helped improve his stamina even more.
Tapales told us he is ?mentally and physically prepared? and is ready to fight.
He said he had watched most of Pungluang?s fights and added, ?we have a chance for sure.?
Tapales indicated he was determined to make up for the stunning 8th round knockout loss of previously unbeaten super bantamweight Prince Albert Pagara to Mexico?s Cesar Juarez last Sunday and promised ?to stay focused? during the fight.
His well known manager/promoter Rex ?Wakee? Salud told us ?Everything is okay. Marlon is in very good condition but must fight a very good fight.?
He said the ?confidence of Marlon is very high.?
Salud said Tapales will leave on the 23rd along with trainers Brix Flores and Fernando Ocon, his mother and Salud himself.
Tapales has looked in terrific shape during sparring demonstrating hand-speed, good footwork and punching power.
Flores said he believes Tapales is ?one of our best boxers. His skill and talent are world class which was echoed by Salud who thinks Marlon is the best boxer in the Philippines right now.?
The 24 year old has a record of 28-2 with 11 knockouts while the 26 year old veteran Pungluang Sor Singyu has a record of 52-3 with 35 knockouts.
