Filipino Argie Toquero has dropped a six round technical decision against Japan?s former super featherweight champion Rikki Naito in a fight card staged at the US military camp in Zama some 40 kilometers southwest of Tokyo.
Veteran Hall-of-Famer Joe Koizumi reported that Naito (15-1, 5 KO?s) was awarded ?a razor-thin technical decision? with two judges scoring it 58-57 and the third judge having it an even 57-57 when the bout was stopped at 1:03 of round six of a scheduled eight round bout when Naito suffered bad gashes on both eyebrows caused by accidental head-butts which caused heavy bleeding with the Japanese unable to continue.
Toquero staggered Naito with a solid right in the second round but Naito retaliated in the next round with a big shot that had Toquero?s head swivel in a see-saw battle of southpaws in a lightweight bout.
The 22 year old Toquero dropped to 9-5-2 with 7 knockouts.
