Filipino southpaw Cris Alfante has lost on points in a slugfest with unbeaten Australian Andrew Moloney at the Talvern Town Hall in Melbourne in a promotion of multi-awarded Peter Maniatis but Alfante?s stablemate Virden Rivera proved no match for the other unbeaten Moloney, Jason, and suffered a 3rd round knockout.
Maniatis commended Alfante for ?a good fight which was a slugging, tough fight with Andrew with the Filipino showing lots of heart and pride.?
He said Rivera started well against super bantamweight Jason Moloney when he started to box but when he chose ?to stand and trade punches which was the beginning of the end. Rivera got caught with a big right hand to the jaw and failed to beat the count. Jason had too much power for the Filipino.?
Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde had claimed that Alfante was in top condition and had a good chance to win because he was a fighter who could punch but he fell short.
With the loss Alfante dropped to 11-6-1 with 4 knockouts while the 29 year old Andrew Moloney improved to 8-0 with 4 knockouts .
25 year old Rivera fell to 8-3-2 with 2 knockouts while Jason Moloney improved to 8-0 with all eight wins coming by way of knockouts.
