Richard Claveras who moved up in weight from light flyweight to flyweight, has won his debut at 112 pounds in a bruising battle with John Juan Purisima in which Claveras appeasred to get away with several low blows that referee Danrex Tapdasan apparently failed to notice.
However, Tapdasan called two low blows which he noticed and deducted a point from Claveras whose vicious body shots ultimately took their toll on Purisima who could no longer take it and lost by a 9th round TKO.
The time was 1:24 of the 9th round.
Claveras was coming off a unanimous decision loss to Jonathan Refugio on May 30, 2015 in a WBC International light flyweight title bout in Bagumbayan, Taguig City.
With the win Claveras from the United Boxing Stable in Malate, Manila improved to 15-2-2 with 13 knockouts while Purisima from General Santos City dropped to 11-9-1 with 4 knockouts.
Purisima had lost his last fight against promising prospect, southpaw bantamweight Jerwin Ancajas by a 9th round knockout in a scheduled ten round bout on May 30, 2015 in General Santos City.
