Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao has finally left Manila last night on board Philippines Airlines for Los Angeles to begin his training for the Barrera fight at Freddie Roach's Wildcard gym, Pacquiao's confidant Rex "Wakee" Salud has informed PhilBoxing.com.
Pacquiao was being accompanied by his long time trainer and childhood friend Buboy Fernandez. The duo are expected to land in LA Tuesday evening.
Pacquiao has postponed his departure for the US at least four times the last one on Monday night where instead of taking the plane out of the country, Pacquiao went to Cebu to sign an endorsement deal with a local company.
Pacquiao also failed to leave for a scheduled press conference of his fight with Barrera on July 24 forcing the cancellation of the event at the plush Beverly Hills hotel which was jointly organized by Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank.
Salud earlier told PhilBoxing.com that he would fly to Manila from his base in Cebu to convince Pacquiao to take last night's flight to LA. By Pacquiao's wishes Salud and lawyer Jeng Gacal were supposed to also fly to LA last night but they only got two confirmed seats -- that of Pacquiao and Salud -- so Salud had given his seat to Fernandez instead.
The Pacquiao-Barrera rematch set on Oct. 6 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas is one of the most awaited fights in boxing in the last four years after Pacquiao demolished the Mexican legend Barrera in their Nov. 15, 2003 encounter.
According to reports, tickets of the event are selling briskly with tickets priced at $100 - $400 range had already been sold out.
