Jermell Charlo made boxing history on Saturday after an 8th round knockout of John Jackson in Las Vegas.

His victory saw him join twin brother Jermall as a world super-welterweight champion - Jermell holds the WBC title while Jermall is the IBF champion - the first time twins have held world titles at the same weight.

In Bacolod City on Saturday, Raul ?Rayito? Garcia, the identical twin brother of Raul Garcia Hirales who were both former champions will face WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes, the longest reigning Filipino world champion in an eagerly awaited title fight.

Sky Sports in Britain reported that Jermell defended his belt around an hour after his brother Jermall 's win with a hard-fought unanimous decision over Austin Trout in the same ring.

The WBC reported Twin Jermell Charlo won the vacant World Boxing Council super welterweight title TKO'ing John Jackson in the eighth round, on a card organized by TGB Promotions and Mayweather Promotions at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

John, the son of legendary double champion and supreme power puncher Julian "The Hawk" Jackson, used his advantages of height, reach and slick boxing skills, milling on the retreat in the first half of the fight, connecting with left jabs and some sparing rather than spearing combinations.

According to the judges, John Jackson was ahead until the seventh round, 69-64 on all three cards.

However, Charlo who'd been landing some of his own jabs and heavy body punches, took matters into his own hands, unleashing a sustained attack at the beginning of the eighth. He landed a massive right hook to the side of Jackson's face, which froze him and had him tottering on unsteady, uncoordinated legs, like a newly born colt.

Charlo immediatly followed up, with a pair of left hooks on the button, driving Jackson on to the ropes. His face came to rest on the second rope. Referee Tony Weeks, moved in swiftly to save John, stopping the fight at fifty one seconds.

With this victory, Charlo remains undefeated at 28-0, with 13 knockouts, capturing the 154-pound WBC crown that Floyd Mayweather Jr vacated. Jackson slips to 20-3 with 15 knockouts.
A exuberant Charlo said ?It's history, we did it. I'm waiting on my brother next," added Charlo, who improved to 28-0 with 13 knockouts.

Jermell then reappeared at ringside to watch his brother beat Trout with two judges scoring it 116-112 and a third 115-113 for a unanimous victory.

The Charlo brothers embraced in the ring after a triumphant night.

Jermall Charo said "It wasn't a struggle, it was an experience.
I want to thank God for allowing me and my twin brother to see this day, baby. History, baby. It feels good."

Jermall Charlo (24-0, 18 knockouts) said he hoped his family's dominance of the division would lead to bigger fights.

"It feels good because I knew my brother would get the job done, and we belong at this level," Jermall said.

"And for us to get the attention that we need, we need these titles and we need to keep these titles."
