The Games & Amusements Board has upheld Japanese businessman Yasuo Matsuoka's contract as manager of Rodel Mayol thereby effectively turning down the request of Mayol for a release.

GAB chairman Eric Buhain told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that "we retained Matsuoka because in the contracts shown to us by both parties it appears that Matsuoka paid P1 million for Mayol’s release" from the former management team of Terry Carter and Joy Ouano.

Buhain also pointed out that Mayol’s US visa was obtained for him by his Japanese manager who is married to a Filipina, Gina Matsuoka, and that one month after Mayol obtained a visa, Carter and Ouano gave him a ticket to travel to the US.

The GAB chairman disclosed that when he spoke to Mayol the boxer said he didn’t want to sign up with his former management team claiming that when he asked for money to renew his visa they refused to give him the money and later attempted to turn over Mayol to Michael Koncz who was able to get Mayol an IBF world light flyweight title fight against Ulises Solis last Sunday in which Mayol suffered an eighth round knockout.

When Matsuoka spoke to Koncz the Canadian reportedly told Matsuoka that he didn’t want to deal with managers which annoyed Matsuoka. Buhain said he had informed all the boxing associations about the decision of the GAB and asked them whether they could help Mayol.
