The International Boxing Federation has announced that the organization?s highest honor ? the Jersey Joe Walcott award will go to Thailand?s world flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng who will defend his title in a rematch with the Philippines former light flyweight champion John Reil Casimero on May 25 in Beijing, China.
The award to Ruenroeng will be presented at the Annual Banquet closing the organization?s 33rd Annual Convention at the Nuo Hotel in Beijing, China on May 26, 2016.
The Jersey Joe Walcott Award, the organization?s highest honor, will go to Amnat Ruenroeng for what the IBF recognized as ?his remarkable accomplishments in the ring,? which included his foul-infested title defense against Casimero in Thailand on June 25 last year in which referee Larry Doggett was bitterly criticized for tolerating Amnat?s series of infractions and failing to call a knockdown scored by Casimero early in the fight.
The IBF also cited Ruenroeng for the most title defenses while unbeaten Filipino super bantamweight Prince Albert Pagra was recognized for the most Intercontinental title defenses.
The James DeGale vs. Lucien Bute fight was named IBF ?Fight of the Year.?
The IBF mentioned that during the week of the convention, on Wednesday, May 25, the convention attendees will be treated to a World Championship Boxing Event. Amnat Ruenroeng will defend his IBF Flyweight title against Johnriel Casimero, headlining the card at the Diamond Stadium in Beijing. The event will also feature Xiong Zhao Zhong of China challenging Jose A. Jimenez of Colombia for the number one position in the IBF Mini-Flyweight division, and Samson Tor Buamas of Thailand vs Zongju Cai of China for the IBF Female Intercontinental Mini-Flyweight title.
