DORONEO TO CHALLENGE RUSSIAN CHAMP

FILIPINO challenger Leonardo ?Toto? Doroneo will be facing Russian champion Vyacheslav Gusey for the International Boxing Organization (IBO) Inter-Continental super welterweight title on May 28 at the Korston Club in Moscow.

Doroneo, a native of Iloilo City, previously won by a 3rd round knockout against Taiwo Ali last November 13, 2015 at the Bangkok University, Thonburi Campus in Bangkok, Thailand.

However, the 27-year old Doroneo (15W-12L-3D-10KOs) lost by a split decision to Nery Saguilan last January 30 for the WBC Latino lightweight crown at the Hotel Ixtapa Azul, Zihuatanejo in Guerrero, Mexico.

Doroneo?s fight was arranged by international matchmaker-promoter Brico Santig of Highland Promotions.

Gusey, on the other hand previously won by a unanimous decision against Cosmas Cheka last December 19, 2015 in Moscow for the vacant IBF International super featherweight title.

The 30-year old Gusey (22W-3L-0D-6 KOs) captured both the vacant WBO European featherweight title and PABA featherweight title via UD over Padjai Yongyuthgym last April 30, 2012 in Moscow.

Gusey also annexed the vacant WBO European featherweight crown by a 3rd round KO over Feliciano Dario Azuaga last March 11, 2011 in Kemerovo, Russia.

Gusey is a former interim WBO Inter-Continental featherweight champion via a UD win over Chaiyong Sithsaithong last July 31, 2008 in Russia. He also took the vacant WBA Inter-Continental featherweight crown by a UD win over Abdul Tebazalwa last April 4, 2012.

Gusey?s first title was when he won by a UD over Alexander Khrulev last June 12, 2005 for the vacant Russia featherweight title. He successfully defended it also by UD over Andrey Andriadis last April 19, 2007. ? LITO DELOS REYES
