FORMER WBC Youth World super lightweight champion Sonny ?Pinoy Hearns? Katiandagho of the Philippines survived against a tough undefeated Korean fighter to escape with a split decision win last Friday in Dangjin, South Korea.
Katiandagho was also hurt by the 36-year old Hyun Woo Yuh but he managed to counter with his up and down attack according to trainer Joven Jorda of the Highland Gym from La Trinidad, Benguet.
?Magaling din yun Koreano at malakas din kasi na grogy din niya si Sonny,? said Jorda in a text message.
But the 24-year old native of General Santos City, managed to play around the Korean to win and improve his record to 9 wins, 1 loss and no draw with 5 knockouts.
Yuh, a former WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver super lightweight title-holder, suffered only his first defeat after winning all his five fights all by knockout.
Yuh captured the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver super lightweight title by stopping Oke Haryanto in 31 seconds of the first round at the A.K. Sports Center in Chonburi, Thailand last March 14, 2015.
Yu previously won also by a first round KO against Rusmin Kie Raha last February 27 at the Suyeonggu Citizen Hall, Busan, South Korea.
Katiandagho, on the other hand, won the vacant WBC Youth World super lightweight title on October 4, 2014 by a unanimous decision over Allan Tanada at the La Trinidad Municipal Gymnasium in Benguet.
?Congratulations to the Team Katiandagho for the victory,? said Highland Promoter Brico Santig, who is now in Japan for two fights. ? LITO DELOS REYES
