REIGNING Women?s International Boxing Association (WIBA) International light flyweight champion Jujeath ?Bad Girl? Nagaowa of the Philippines will again be fighting for another world title.
This time, Nagaowa will be challenging the undisputed WIBA World light flyweight title-holder Su-Yun Hong of South Korea on April 29 in Suwon, South Korea.
It will be the fourth title-defense by the Korean champion.
Nagaowa (13W-16L-1D-8KOs) is coming from a controversial defeat by a unanimous decision from the hands of Nao Ikeyama in their non-title fight held December 19 at the Sirasa Stein Studios in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Nagaowa earlier won the vacant WIBA International light flyweight title also by a UD over Chinese Yu Jie Luo last June 6 in Macao, China.
?Gusto ko ulit makatim ng panalo. Kaya?t gagawin ko ang lahat upang matalo si Su-Yun Hong,? said the 28-year old native of Natonin, Mountain Province.
The 4-foot-11 Nagaowa also fought but lost four times in separate world title-fights.
She first challenged Samson Tor Buamas for the WIBA World minimumweight title but lost by a technical knockout on May 18, 2010 in Thailand.
Nagaowa then earned a title-shot against Korean Ju Hee Kim for all her three titles - Global Boxing Union Female World light flyweight,
WIBA World light flyweight and Women's International Boxing Federation World light flyweight ? plus the vacant World Boxing Federation female light flyweight crown. But Nagaowa bowed to Kim by a majority decision in their championship fight held September 12, 2010 at the Anyang Stadium in Anyang, South Korea.
Nagaowa then challenged but again bowed to Teeraaporn Pannimit by UD for the WBO World female minimumweight title on November 22, 2010 at the Zeer Rangsit Shopping Center, Pathum Thani, Thailand.
In her next world title fight, Nagaowa was stopped in the 5th round by defending WBC World female light flyweight champion Naomi Togashi at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan on May 8, 2011 for the WBC.
Nagaowa then went on to challenge twice Korean Ji Hyun Park for her International Female Boxers Association World minimumweight title. She both dropped UDs in Gunsan (March 23, 2013) and in Incheon (October 5, 2013).
But that did not stopped Nagaowa in her quest for a title. After losing four straight outings, Nagaowa finally captured the vacant WIBA International light flyweight against Yu Jie Luo in Macao.
?Nag-tiyaga lang talaga at nagsumikap si Nagaowa,? said her promoter-manager Brico Santig of Highlands Promotions.
Nagaowa will be accompanied in South Korea by his trainer Joven Jorda and Santig from La Trinidad, Benguet.
Nagaowa, however, will be the underdog against Su-Yun Hong (13L-1L-1D-7KOs), who has successfully defended her crown three times already.
The 29-year old Hong won it by a UD over Chinese Ma Li last October 19, 2014 in Korea. She first retained it also by UD over Gao Liu on December 20, 2014.
The 5-foot-3 Hong then scored a 4th round TKO win over Thailand?s Kanittha Saknarong on Sept. 19, 2015 in her second defense.
Hong continued her winning ways by stopping China?s Jian Li Liu by an 8th round TKO last December 27 at the Jinju Gymnasium in Jinju, South Korea in her third and last defense. ? LITO DELOS REYES
