PHILIPPINE flyweight champion Donny ?Mr. Shallow? Mabao will be fighting against Pablo ?El Trancito? Carillo of Colombia for the Japanese super welterweight title on April 17 at the Edion Arena Osaka in Osaka, Japan.
The 8-round championship bout is the main supporting bout of the super welterweight fight between Yuki Nonaka (28W-8L-3D) and Yuto Shimizu (11W-2L-2D) promoted by Kazama Promotions.
Mabao (22W-24L-3D) of the Highlands Promotions will be accompanied by his manager-promoter Brico Santig of La Trinidad, Benguet.
The 27-year old native of Talakag, Bukidnon previously won by a majority decision against Michael Enriquez to capture the Philippine flyweight title last February 20 in Taguig City, Manila.
?Mabao has already improved a lot with his skills and punching power,? said Santig.
The 5-foot flat Mabao is also a former WBC Asia Council Continental minimumweight champion.
Carrillo (18W-4L-1D), however, previously scored a 4th round knockout against Jaipetch Chaiyonggym last December 27 in Osaka, Japan.
Prior to that, Carrillo also knocked out countryman Manuel Sarmiento in the first round last May 23, 2015 in Colombia.
?Malakas sumuntok ang kalaban, kaya kailangan mag-ingat,? said Santig.
Carrillo, who is now based in Osaka, is a former Colombian flyweight champion. He also fought but lost to Luis Concepcion in their WBC Latino flyweight title bout in 2012.
The undercard:
Yutaka Oishi vs. Hisao Narita.
Yuta Uetani vs. Tianchai Srisaketpattana
Takeru Kamikubo vs. Hisashi Kawanishi
Hiroto Kyoguchi vs. Nayolek Sithsaithong
