The co-manager of WBA light flyweight interim champion Randy ?Razor? Petalcorin ? Peter Maniatis says Petalcorin will fight Australian Omar Kimweri who was originally from Tanzania for the WBC Silver title in Melbourne on April 15.

Petalcorin who is coming off a 1st round TKO win over China?s Ma Ying Ming in defense of his title, has fought only once in the last 18 months but according to Maniatis has been training very hard at the Sanman Gym in General Santos City which is owned by co-manager Jim Manangquil, in the hope he would be able to defend his WBA title against Kimwweri but Kimweri was not approved as a title challenger.

However, Maniatis told The Standard that the manager of Kimweri offer to fight Petalcorin for the WBC Silver belt and claimed the fight has been approved by WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman who confirmed the winner will meet newly crowned champion Ganigan Lopez of Mexico although Sulaiman told us told us more than once in recent weeks that Lopez will defend the title in a mandatory against Filipino Jonathan Taconing sometime in July.

Maniatis considers the fight against Kimweri for the vacant WBC Silver belt as ?a backward step? since he was eager to fight for the full WBA title but since he had ?no other fight booked and Randy needs the money to help his mother who is ill put his family ahead of his current status as WBA light flyweight Interim champion.

The well-known Australian promoter told us ?Randy needs to stay active and keep seeking bigger fights? although he conceded that Kimweri who won a ten round unanimous decision over Filipino Michael Camelion last February 26 could turn out To be a tougher opponent than originally believed.

Southpaw Petalcorin is 24 years old and has a record of 23-1-1 with 18 knockouts while Kimweri has a record of 15-3 with 6 knockouts but stands only 4?11?? in height compared to Randy?s 5?3?.
