LOS ANGELES, CA -- A thankful boxing hero Manny Pacquiao expressed delight that once again, like in the past one and-a-half decades, he was given the opportunity to provide his downtrodden contentment hope and joy in the middle of their sufferings brought about by natural and man-made calamities.

"I'm happy and thankful that God, through the decision of the Commission on Elections, to allow my coming fight (against Timothy Bradley on April 9) to be shown on television and listened to on radio and read in newspapers, it has given me the chance to make our countrymen happy again," Pacquiao said during his media day Wednesday held at the Wild Card Gym here.

"Salamat din kay Comelec chair Andy Bautista at sa lahat ng kanyang mga commissioner sa kanilang pasya na huwag ipagkait sa ating mga kababayan ang kaunting kaligayahang natatamo nila kapag napapanood ang aking mga laban," the only man on earth to have won world championships in eight weight divisions, remarked in a separate interview after the media affair.

"I thank all of them for realizing that every time I fight, the whole country remains at a standstill with the crime situation dropping to almost nil while everybody watched and awaited for the results of my fight," the father of five with wife, Sarangani Vice Gov. Jinkee Jamora-Pacquiao uttered.

"They celebrate with me in my every success and weep, too, in my every failure. I don't know why, but for whatever reason or reasons, I made it a mission na pasanin sa balikat ko ang ang ating bayan tuwing ako'y lalaban," he said.

Since bringing home the International Boxing Federation super-bantamweight crown with a sixth round TKO over African fighter Lehlo Ledwaba in June 23, 2001, Filipinos all over the world had followed his career that each time Pacquiao fought everything stopped with the rebels and government soldiers declaring unofficial truce.

Until he found himself crown holder of the featherweight, super-featherweight, lightweight, junior-welterweight, welterweight and super-welterweight, a feat not even Muhammad "The Greatest" Ali succeeded in doing so.

"To those who had tried to stop the showing of the fight, pagbigyan na sana ninyo na mapanood ng ating mga kababayan ang darating na laban ko. Huli na po ito at magre-retiro na ako, hayaan na ninyo na sa kahulihulihang pagkakataon ay makita pa nila ako na dala at iwinawagayway ang ating bandila," Pacquiao begged.
