Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr has entered into a major tie-up with the world renowned Londsdale of London, a British brand with a rich heritage that started with the trend of metal belts for boxing champions as well as boxing equipment, footwear and a wide range of sports apparel.

The formal tie-up formally signed and announced at a press conference at the Elorde Gym in Makati City in the presence of Regional Business Manager Ben Gardener and Sasi Kumar Pillai, Managing Director of Sports Network Pte. Ltd Also present at the signing were WBO Intercontinental light flyweight champion Rexon Flores and WBO Asia Pacific flyweight champion Drian Francisco who will defend their titles against Thai challengers on August 4 at the Elorde Sports Center in Paranaque.

Both Flores and Francisco said they are in great shape and determined to win in an effort to possibly get a crack at WBO world titles. Elorde said the WBO promised him that both fighters successfully defend their titles, Flores would be given a title shot at world champion Hugo Cazares of Mexico while Francisco will be given a crack at WBO flyweight champion Omar Narvaes of Argentina in December.

Gardener said the tieup was “a great opportunity to launch and develop the Londsdale brand in the Philippines. We are looking at sponsoring professional gyms such as the Elorde gym and also looking at the more grassroots level gyms and fighters.”

He said with the emergence of two new world champions in IBF minimum weight champion Florante Condes and IBF/IBO flyweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire as well as the explosive performances of Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao, the Philippines has become “an important market for boxing and the history of boxing is here in this country and Lonsdale has a great history as well so to tie both things together is a great opportunity.”

Regarding sponsorship of fights and a possible link with fighters Pillai said “we’ve got to take it one step at a time.” Pillai said “the very core of our business is boxing and there is no better place to start than the Philippines where boxing is
the No. 2 sport.”

Gardener said Londsdale is tied up with great British world champions Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton and “some great champions we work with and sponsor internationally and the Philippines is another market that is key.”
