The city government of Maasin again recognized the latest victory of Prince Albert Pagara during the State of the City Address of this writer last Monday. It served as a fitting tribute to a hometown hero who brought honor and fame to this capital city of Southern Leyte when he scored a very convincing unanimous decision over Nicaraguan Yesner Talavera at the Cebu Waterfront Hotel and Casino.

Pagara received a plaque of appreciation before cheering audience numbering more than two thousand consisting of city employees, students and teachers of Maasin City College, national line agencies, barangay officials, Muslim brothers, and VIP's including Governor Roger Mercado and Provincial Liga ng mga Barangay President Nikko Mercado, our candidate for Mayor.

My SOCA 2016 reported my accomplishments for nine years as City Mayor, especially my 13-Point Agenda. The Agenda include Sports Excellence in which Prince Albert is a part of. Other achievements of the city in the field of sports include the hosting of the National Boxing Championships 2013, hosting of the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) 2012, and producing Philippine Boxing Federation champions Adones Aguelo and the late Alex Aroy.

This writer also reported during the SOCA 2016 that as City Mayor he accompanied the Maasin City athletes in the EVRAA meets in Tacloban, Catarman, Ormoc, Baybay and Calbayog, the Palarong Pambansa at Naga, Puerto Princesa, Tacloban and Lingayen, the Batang Pinoy at Bacolod, Aklan, Romblon and Cebu, and the Philippine National Games at Antique. We were able to produce gold medalists in the national competitions.

After the State of the City Address honoring, we paraded Pagara in the streets of the poblacion where thousands enthusiastically greeted him along the way. He also had a warm homecoming in his home barangay in Lib-og.

P.S. This writer will engage in the local campaign as he is running as City Vice Mayor under the Liberal Party and will be back writing after the elections.
