LOS ANGELES, CA -- "I thought I've already seen the best of Manny ... until I saw him today."
Assistant trainer Nonoy Neri, describing what happened on Manny Pacquiao's sparring session held Wednesday, said it was the best he'd seen so far of the eight-division champion this camp.
"Beautiful, today's was the most beautiful workout I've seen since we arrived here in L.A. last week," Neri exclaimed following the day's chore at the chief trainer Freddie Roach-owned Wild Card Gym.
"Talagang bigay-na-bigay si Manny against his two mates. Ang bilis ng mga paa at kamay at ang lalakas ng mga ibinibigay na suntok," Neri, wo is also one of Pacquiao's dietitian, said in reference to dance partners Lydell Rhodes and Ghislain Maduma.
"Manny has really reached his peak this early in the camp. And he's still improving by the day," he attested.
"Maganda ang ibig sabihin niyan, talagang magiging handang-handa na siya padating ng laban."
"No, not really, Neri assured when reminded about the possibility of the fighting Sarangani Congressman getting burnt out. "We, in the training staff had already thought out of measures to prevent that from happening."
"Kailangan ma-maintain ni Manny ang certain condition na ideal para sa kanya. Hindi kulang, hindi rin sobra," he explained. "Mas madali yun kesa habol ka nang habol na mag-peak hanggang kapusin sa oras at magkulang ka."
Neri was actually echoing what fellow assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez's assessment made a day earlier that Pacquiao has, indeed, acquired his combative form.
"Manny knows naman when to stop. Ramdam niya kung puno na siya. Lagi namang ganyan si Manny, " he said.
As scheduled, sparring on Thursday will be for 11 rounds, Saturday 12 rounds. The frequency in training regimen will start to taper off Monday next week. The team is set to depart for Las Vegas on April 4.
