Internationally known referee Bruce McTavish says Filipino super bantamweight Jack Tepora is a world-class fighter and should be rated by the World Boxing Organization after he won the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Youth super bantamweight title with a rousing 5th round knockout of Jason Tinampay in a battle of southpaws at the classy Robinson?s Mall along the seaside reclamation area in Cebu.
McTavish who was the third man in the ring, told The Standard that Tepora put on a terrific performance and that Tinampay was a game opponent but Tepora had too much speed and power for him to handle.
Reports from ringside by philboxing.com said that Tinampay crouched from a body shot in the 5th round and refused to stand up to the utter disappointment of the fans although the fight was entertaining enough to hold the crowd till the end.
Philboxing?s Dong Secuya told us Tepora has a promising future but needs to be matched against a worthy opponent. He also said the crowd wasn?t big and only the last three fights including that of Tepora were alright.
Tepora who is under the management of the Omega Gym has an unbeaten record of 17-0 with 12 knockouts and is just 22 years of age.
He has beaten several veterans convincingly including Jason Egera over whom he scored a 1st round TKO in a scheduled ten round bout on September 12, 2015 after another veteran Jilo Merlin retired in round five of a six round bout on June 12, 2015 and hammered Marvin Tampus into submission in round one of a scheduled ten round bout on February 2, 2015.
