Maamo rules Jardin del Roca Random chessfest

DAVAO CITY ? Harrison Maamo carded 6.5 points to rule the 2016 Jardin del Roca Random Chess tournament held over the weekend at the scenic Jardin del Roca Mountain Resort in Bayabas, Toril here.

Maamo bested 42 players including four national masters to earn P5,000 cash and a trophy awarded by tournament director and sponsor Atty. Jong Guevarra.

Second was Werner Priete with 6.0 points followed by Recarte Tiauson at 5.5 points. Priete and Tiauson received P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.

NM Cedric Magno of Panabo City finished fourth with 5.0 points to, pocket P1,000. He was followed by Reynaldo Quinones, Jimmy Dano and NM Macacuna Macala also with identical 5.0 points each in that order.

The 8th to 10th placers with similar 4.5 points each were Ferdinand Leysa, Jun Mark Baldesimo and Daniel Salazar Jr. All of them earned P500 each.

Darwin Bermudez finished 11th with 4.5 while NM Alexander Lupian scored 4.0 points to join the group of 12th to 15th with Jason Salubre, Anthony Mosqueda and Jimzon Trangia.

They received free T-shirts from Engr. Allan Diez.

The top Kiddie (under 14) player was Kurt John Placencia with 3.0 points while top female participant was Florence Faith Guevarra. They both earned P500 from the sponsor Guevarra Law Office.

The two-day event was held to prepare the players of Mindanao slated to join the Bobby Pacquiao Cup Random chess tournament in General Santos City. ? LITO DELOS REYES
